We like to think we’re in control.
Of our lives.
Of where we’re going.
Of how people perceive us.
Of where and how we end up.
But most of the time, we’re just guessing. We make plans, build routines, outline the next five years as if we hold the pen to our stories. And yet—how many times have things turned out completely differently from what we imagined? Because our lives are co-dependant with world—others choices, descions impact our life either directly or indirectly. Perhaps even the curse of fate also has a play in it.
We chase stability like it’s the answer, but life was never built to be steady. One moment you’re certain of everything—you know what you want, who you are, where you’re heading—and in the next, it’s like the rug is pulled out from under you. .
That’s the thing about control. It gives us comfort. It gives us a sense of meaning. But it is, in many ways, an illusion we choose to believe.
We control what we can like its our last life line—but there are things we cant control: we can’t control how people interpret us, or whether they stay or leave. We can’t control the weather, or what someone else is thinking, or whether tomorrow turns out exactly as planned.
But its not necessarily a bad thing. Uncertainty makes room for wonder.
We need to stop gripping the steering wheel so tightly and just let the journey unfold. Because sometimes, the most beautiful things happen when we stop trying so hard to write the story and allow life to surprise us instead.
